Brouard Consulting benefits from the consulting expertise of researchers in several fields related to the company's activities. Three of these partnering consultants are provided below.


Pierre Bérest graduated from Ecole Polytechnique and from the School of Mines of Paris (Ecole des Mines de Paris). He was Head of the Solid Mechanics Laboratory at Ecole Polytechnique (1990-2000) and currently is research director for the same laboratory. He teaches Rock Mechanics at the Paris VI University and in Ecole Centrale de Paris. P. Bérest chairs the French Standing Committee for Nuclear Waste Management appointed by the French Nuclear Safety Authority and is a member of the National Assessment Committee for Nuclear Waste Management appointed by the French Parliament. He is a member of the Scientific Council, French Petroleum Institute (IFP) and was the 2011 President of the Solution Mining Research Institute (SMRI). He is a member of the French Commission for Underground Storage Safety (CSSS) and, is on the Editorial Board of Oil & Gas Science and Technology Journal.

Professor Bérest is author of two books and more than 100 publications in the fields of plasticity, viscoplasticity, thermomechanics, calculus of variations, buckling, and residual stresses. He has contributed to several research projects related to underground caverns, tightness tests in salt caverns, caverns stability and abandonment, and salt mines. In 1999, he was awarded the Gaz de France Great Prize by the French Academy of Sciences.

Attilio FRANGI

Attilio Frangi is Associate Professor at the Department of Structural Engineering, Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and Professor at the Département de Mécanique, Ecole Polytechnique, Paris (France).

He was awarded the Fondazione Confalonieri prize (1999), the Young Researcher Fellowship Award, MIT, Cambridge (2001) and the "Bruno Finzi" prize for Rational Mechanics, Istituto Lombardo di Scienza e Lettere (2009).

Professor Frangi developed the computation core of LOCAS software for Brouard Consulting.

Born in 1973 in Tokyo, Ayumi Kurose holds a MS from Ecole Polytechnique, France. His PhD Thesis focused on interactions between waves and cavities, and the effects of earthquakes on underground structures such as galleries or wells. In collaboration with ANDRA, Geostock, JNC and Shimizu Corporation, Dr. Kurose developed a methodology to design underground structures potentially impacted to severe earthquakes.

As a former member of the French Society of Earthquake Engineering, he contributed to the new French standards for Earthquake-resistant design of underground structures.

On the basis of his research, he developed the LOSSOS and LOSSIF software programs with Brouard Consulting, and participated to several studies related to the mechanical stability of wells subjected to earthquakes.

Dr. Kurose's thesis was awarded Best Ph.D. Thesis of Ecole Polytechnique in 2000.

Dr. Kurose is today Head of an Engineering Department at Renault SAS, France.
